The space hotel will be able to carry 280 guests and 112 crew members at a time.
Vacations in space? People may be taking them in the not-so-distant future. A company called Orbital Assembly Corporation plans to open the world’s first space hotel, called Voyager Station, by 2027. For entertainment, the hotel will offer recreational activities that take advantage of reduced gravity (hint: You can jump higher and lift heavy objects with ease). Afterward, guests can admire the spectacular views from the hotel’s restaurant while chowing down on space food, such as freeze-dried ice cream. No word on room rates yet, but the price tag will likely be hefty. Still, experts say this is only the start of this kind of tourism. “We’re trying to make the public realize that this golden age of space travel is just around the corner,” John Blincow, a former pilot who runs the company, told CNN. “It’s coming. It’s coming fast.”
