Q: Why was this fund-raiser important to you?
A: One of my friends from middle school died of cancer. And in the Air Force, one of our core values is service before self. Before I even came here, I decided I’m going to make this sacrifice and I’m going to help other people.
Q: Had you always stood out for your hair?
A: I’d always been the Afro kid because I didn’t like cutting my hair. So in high school, I let it grow as big as I could.
Q: How was the fund-raiser?
A: I was expecting maybe 50 people, but more and more kept coming. Some people donated a little bit so they could come up and cut my hair personally. It was great.
Q: What do you want others to take away from this?
A: You might not think you can make a difference, but if you do something good, someone else will see that and they’ll want to do good too. It’s a domino effect of goodness.
