A Fresh Pot of A.I.
Coffee lovers in Finland are getting in on the artificial intelligence craze: Kaffa Roastery in Helsinki recently introduced AI-conic, a coffee blend dreamed up by ChatGPT-like models. Kaffa provided descriptions of its coffee flavors, which A.I. used to create a new blend. Despite the unconventional choice of four bean varieties rather than the standard two or three, Kaffa says that its experts deemed the blend “flawless.” Finland is the world’s top coffee consumer per capita, with the average Finn consuming 26 pounds annually, according to the International Coffee Organization. Some people have voiced frustration with the project, seeing it as another way for A.I. to replace human creativity after the technology has already been used to generate works of art and write books. But Svante Hampf, Kaffa Roastery’s founder, says he’s optimistic. “This (trial) was the first step in exploring how A.I. could help us in the future,” he told the Associated Press. “I think A.I. has plenty to offer us in the long run.”
